One of Cologne's newest museums offers pure sport.

The Olympic Games from 1936 to 1972 are vividly documented, and individual objects donated by famous sportsmen and women such as Boris Becker and Zapotek provide the visitor with interesting highlights. The collection pieces, which to date have been in storage, promise interesting rotating exhibitions. A café and shop round off a visit to the "German Sport and Olympic Museum".

1982 The non-profit association, "Deutsches Sportmuseum e.V." was founded at the suggestion of Willi Daume, the former NOC president.
1985 The city council offer Cologne as a museum location.
1983-1996 Development of a collection inventory of almost 100,000 objects.
1996 Signing of the contract for sale of the listed Customs and Storage Building 10 in the Cologne "Rheinauhafen" (harbour).
1999 Building hand-over in the spring to the "Deutsches Sport- und Olympia-Museum e.V.".
