Cologne has more than 4000 pubs, restaurants and alehouses. No other German city has as many pubs and even first-class restaurants considering the number of inhabitants.
In a decorated restaurant you expect to spend € 40,- and more on a complete menu, drinks included.
You will be able to dine less expensively at one of the restaurants offering special cooking some of which are of equally high standard.
If you walked to each bar in Cologne, you would cover a good 6 miles. This sheer variety makes a representative choice quite difficult. If you wish to dine in typical Cologne style you should visit one of the brewery
taverns actually still frequented by locals. Of course, »Kölsch« a top-fermented, light beer tops the drinks list. The Cologne menu offers for example »Halve Hahn« (a rye breadroll with cheese) or »Cologne Caviar« (a rye breadroll with black puddingand onion rings)
