Castrum DivitiaIn 310 A.D., the »Castrum Divitia«, a military camp, was built under Emperor Constantine I which, by means of a bridge, was linked with »Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium«. It was later used by the Franconians as a royal court. The well-preserved foundations are to be found close to the Eastern arterial gate.

The soldiers were simultaneously policemen, building workers and bodyguards. The arena a square was 141,35 metres long and had 14 towers and two gates. The East/West axis between both gates formed the so-called camp street.
