Roman North GateThe remnants of the Roman North Gate, which are still visible today on the Cathedral square, were originally part of the Roman city wall, which, at that time, was located there. At that time, the North Gate had three gateways, a central one with a width of 5.60 metres and a height of 8.60 metres, and two side gateways each with a width of 1.90 metres. In 1971, the Eastern gate tower was erected on the North west of the Cathedral square, where it can be seen today. Other remnants of the city wall are freely accessible in the underground car park below the Cathedral. ...more about Roman architecture in Cologne |
