Cologne – the centre for conventions, conferences, incentives and trade fairs. The new ICE fast-speed train connection between Frankfurt and Cologne which has been in operation since August 2002 means that visitors spend less time travelling to Cologne’s wide variety of conference facilities: the ICE journey between the two city centres only takes 76 minutes and Frankfurt Rhine-Main Airport is now only just over an hour away from the train station serving the Cologne trade fair in Deutz.

During the coming years, a congress centre designed to hold 5,500 visitors will be constructed on the banks of the Rhine between the trade fair and the Cologne-Deutz ICE terminal. The immediate proximity to the trade fair will enable the exhibition halls to be used for selected events. The largest supplier of conference facilities in Cologne is KölnKongress, a jointly-owned subsidiary of the City of Cologne and the Cologne trade fair company Koelnmesse. KölnKongress has operated the two convention centres (East and West) since 1994, and has added a number of additional locations to its portfolio over the years - for example, the Gürzenich building, TanzbrunnenKöln with the Tanzbrunnen Theatre,Rheinterrassen and km 689 Co-logne Beach Club, Die Bastei (bastion), the ZOOLocation and the Zeughaus. The Kölnarena is the ideal location for those mega-events - concerts, galas, annual generalmeetings - with a capacity of 18,000 visitors (or an impressive number of 2,500 seated guests in the inner heart alone). The hotels have also made a substantial contribution towards the development of the convention industry in Cologne. Almost all leading international chains are now represented in the city and have therefore expanded the range of available conference facilities considerably. The »Take Five Hotels«, a marketingcooperative consisting of the 10 largest first-class hotels in Cologne with joint international marketing, provide conference and banqueting rooms for up to 4,500 persons, in addition to their 2,700 hotel rooms. Cologne - the 2000-year young and dynamic congresscity on the river Rhine looks for-ward to numerous trade fair and conference visitors. The Cathedral city is captivating due to its fascinating combination of Roman history and state-of-the-art congress atmosphere. Visitors can let themselves be spoilt by Cologne’s hospitality and be inspired by its attractive cultural spectrum. This guarantees that every event - be it for 20 or 20,000 visitors - is a success.

The largest supplier of conference facilities in Cologne is KölnKongress, a jointly-owned subsidiary of the City of Cologne and the Cologne trade fair company Koelnmesse. KölnKongress has operated the two convention centres (East and West) since 1994, and has added a number of additional locations to its portfolio over the years – for example, the Gürzenich building, Tanzbrunnen Köln with the Tanzbrunnen Theatre, the Bastei (bastion) and the ZOOLocation.

In 1997 the Gürzenich was completely renovated and restored to its original purpose as a festival and assembly hall – nowadays called a conference and congress hall. The new owner is the Cologne Congress. This Betriebs und Service GmbH markets and operates both the Cologne Trade Fair Congress Centre and the Gürzenich and appears as a provider on the market. This joint appearance is also, at the same time, one of the great plus points that the Cologne Congress can demonstrate compared to its competitors, namely with the highly functional and internationally established Cologne Trade Fair Congress Centre as well as the historical, yet technically ultra modern Gürzenich, the Cologne Congress offers an extraordinarily broad spectrum of events facilities in Cologne, which is additionally complemented by the Tanzbrunnen in the Rhine Park, a traditional open air stage.

However not just the various locations, but also the outstanding service of the Cologne Congress convinces the promoters of conferences and press conferences etc. to rely on the competence of the "movers” of the Cologne Congress. Last but not least, they also convinced such high-powered visitors as the participants in the G8 summit, an event, which was a great success not only for Cologne, but also for the Cologne Congress.

Hotels as Event-Managers top

Not only agencies, but also the large Cologne hotels offer plenty of good service for all possible events along with their premises. The first ones to mention here would be the group of the Take Five Hotels. Incidentally, these hotels were in full use during the international summit and accommodated the various delegations from the Länder. Other high calibre hotels, in some cases five star hotels and even the "superior” additional decorations, such as, for example, the Excelsior Hotel Ernst or the Grandhotel Schloß Bensberg, offer their rooms for all kinds of events and normally have an equally high qualified range of services on their own premises.

Besides these particularly large promoters, small, yet no less professional agencies offer their organisation talent and their competence with regard to events:
