From Cologne, along the Rhine, there is a lot to see and experience. |

The ferries between Zons and Drachenfels |
 |
Although crossing by ferry, as an alternative to the Rhine bridges, is no cruise, it is always an experience. Decisive here is naturally whether you are on foot or have come by car. Below is a description of the individual ferries and their use.
Travel times always refer to the summer months. The prices are all reasonable, varying between one and two Euros for a single journey. In general, taking a bike costs a little extra.
Zons-Urdenbach car ferry (718 Kilometres)
Mon-Fri 6.15-21 hrs.,
Sat 8.30-21 hrs.,
Sun 9-21 hrs. |
Travels between Urdenbach and fortification of Zons. In earlier times, the Archbishop of Cologne imposed tolls here. Today, Zons is one of the main destinations for senior visitors. |
Langel-Hitdorf Rhine ferry (705 KM)
Mon-Fri 6.00-20.15 hrs.
Sat/Sun 9.00-20.15 |
Large car ferry with car section in the middle and a small roofed area. |
Cologne-Deutz passenger ferry (688 KM) |
Travels when required during the summer on sunny days and during trade fairs. The fact that the ferry is not really reliable does not matter, as there is a bridge 100m further along. |
Weiss-Zündorf passenger ferry (677 KM) Mon-Fri 11-19 hrs. half-hourly,
Sat/Sun 10-20 hrs. approx. every 20 minutes. |
The smallest of the Rhine ferries. On the boats »Krokodil« and »Frika«, built by the ferryman, the maximum of 18 people (Sat/Sun max. 30 pers.) can really travel over in style. |
Wesseling-Niederkassel/Lülsdorf passenger ferry (668 KM)
half-hourly:
Mon-Fri 6:00 a.m. - 7:10 p.m.
Sat 8:40 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
Sun 9:40 a.m. - 7:10 p.m. |
Due to the somewhat modest scenery in the area, it is mainly a commuter ferry. However: it is the longest crossing; Wesseling lies approximately one kilometre downstream from Lülsdorf. |
Grau/Rheindorf-Mondorf car ferry
(660 KM)
Mon-Fri 6.30-20 hrs.,
Sat/Sun 10-19 hrs. |
Large car ferry which is run commercially, despite the bridge being located only three kilometres away. |
